A great project to work on with the legendary Ken Hom and the delightful Pierre-Jean Pébeyre of the famous French truffle house. The challenge was to come up with a design that was contemporary and yet classic and reflected the meeting of East and West in the cooking. 

Not only did I have to design and layout the book, but I also wound up translating the original French text into English along with copy-editing the recipes.

My second project with the wonderful George Saumarez Smith, this book of his architectural drawings and his philosophy has proved hugely popular.

The look we were going for is something similar to eighteenth-century architectural treatises and it makes great use of white space to give emphasis to the quality of the drawings, which have extra three-dimensionality thanks to the use of duotone reproduction.

The cover is hand-drawn by the author himself. The final book being a papernack with a coloured card cover and large flaps to give it extra weight.

Three Classicists is a book of architectural drawings, photographs and musings of three young architects: Ben Pentreath, George Saumarez Smith and Francis Terry.

The layout makes generous use of white space and a classic font and unfussy design to give room for the gorgeous drawings to breathe and use of a second colour in the printing brings added depth to the drawings and photographs.

A beautiful book showcasing the art of Gendun Chopel, Tibet's first modern artist.

Although not always a fan of landscape format books ,the shape of these exquisite Tibetan folios immediately suggested this was the way to go for this book. The result was that the folios could be reproduced in their entirety across two pages at a good size.

This hugely popular photography book (now in a reprint of its second edition) was an immense pleasure to work on in cooperation with the wonderfully gifted James Ravilious.

The landscape format was a natural fit for James's mostly landscape photographs of the west country countryside and people.
